MANA Takes on Capital Hill

On April 14-16 MANA members and interested students visited our congressional and senatorial representatives to advocate for our issues. Our issues included Nursing Education funding, including SRNA funding, Anesthesia Training Equity (HB 1932) and Medicare reimbursement issues. See photos in the news for more.

A Collaboration Issue Answer

This is to clarify some misinformation being asked of you by some Maryland hospitals. Fact: You are required to have a collaboration agreement on file with the Board of Nursing. But the Board DOES NOT send a letter back to you stating that your collaboration agreement has been approved. That is a requirement of Nurse Practitioners, but NOT of CRNAs. This point was clarified with Emmaline Woodson of the Advanced Practice section of the Board of Nursing on March 28, 2008 with Ron Van Nest, MANA Executive Director.

John Bing, CRNA Named to the Board of Nursing

In the 2007 legislative session MANA joined a coalition with other advanced practice registered nursing groups to lobby for a bill to have an advanced practice position be created on the Board of Nursing. The bill was passed and signed into law in the spring of 2007. Each practitioner group was entitled to submit nominees for the first selectee. The Governor selected John Bing from the list of candidates. John joins a select few CRNAs around the country who are members of their state Boards of Nursing.

CRNA Peer Review Advisory Committee Openings

There are at least three openings for CRNAs to on this valuable committee. The committee advises the Board of Nursing on nurse anesthesia issues and professional practice reviews. It usually meets every other month for about two hours. If you have an interest in volunteering contact the MANA Executive Director, Ron Van Nest, for more information.
