CRNA Volunteers Needed for Haiti
The University of Maryland School of Medicine and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center have partnered with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to provide medical care services at St Francois de Sales Hospital in Port au Prince, Haiti. We have made a commitment to provide services for up to 6 months to help the facility rebuild and to help the staff re-engage in their professional lives. The overwhelming majority of the care delivered at this point represents complications of earthquake related trauma, particularly musculoskeletal injuries.
If you are interested in contributing one week of your time to this effort, please let us know. We are seeking volunteers for one week deployments from Saturday through Saturday each week beginning February 27 and continuing through May 1. Volunteers for later deployments may be accepted in the next several weeks. For each deployment, please be prepared to leave on the day prior to the start and to return the day after. Thus the time commitment for each deployment would be approximately 9 days.
Please provide us (via e-mail or fax) with block(s) of time during which you can be available. After review of the list, we will select volunteers. We will need a copy of your CRNA / RN license, current CV and a letter from your institution indicating that you are a licensed, practicing CRNA in good standing and that you are in good health.
CRS will provide transportation between Haiti and Baltimore as well as basic housing and food. You are responsible for obtaining appropriate immunizations and bringing basic personal type camping necessities (list provided prior to deployment). No insurances are offered by the University of Maryland or CRS. By agreeing to deploy with us, you must agree to hold harmless both entities in the event of personal injury or loss of life. Furthermore, no professional liability coverage is included. While the risk of event is likely small, we recommend that you contact your carrier to request addition of this activity to the profile of covered activities under your policy.
We greatly appreciate your willingness to consider helping us in our effort to help the people of Haiti.
