SLAM Airway Course
The
MANA Spring meeting took place on March 6, 2010 at the Maritime Institute
in Linthicum Heights, MD. The SLAM Airway course allowed participants to
hear lectures on advanced airway techniques and rescue ventilation skills.
Lecture was followed by a hands-on lab with a pig larynx for each student
to practice cricothyrotomy, transtracheal jet ventilation and emergency
percutaneous tracheostomy. Representatives from many leading airway technology
companies came to demonstrate and teach participants about their devices.
The business meeting addressed current issues facing MANA this year but
by far the most exciting announcement was the choice of the Gaylord Hotel
in the National Harbor for the MANA Fall meeting, September 24-26, 2010.
More information will be posted here as it becomes available. We look forward
to seeing you there! View photos.
MANA President Greg Taylor
To
the newly elected MANA Board of 2009-2010, to past board members, to the
past presidents of MANA, for whom I hope to continue your remarkable legacy,
AND especially, to all the CRNA's in the state of Maryland, I humbly accept
the position of President. We as a group, have faced many issues over the
years: scope of practice issues; regulatory issues; the right to bill independently
and practice independently. Last year we faced another challenge to our
ability to practice in Maryland with the introduction of legislation to
Open/Start a program at Johns Hopkins University for the training and ultimately
the licensing of Anesthesia Assistants. As you are all aware, we defeated
this first attempt with a coordinated attack lead by past president, Michelle
Duell, our lobbyist, Bill Kress, past presidents Kathy Nugent and John Bing,
your MANA Board and a host of dedicated CRNA's, who all stepped IN and UP
at differing times to write, call and visit legislators, and to testify
in Annapolis on behalf of MANA. Click here to continue

MANA Fall Meeting
Rehoboth Beach, DE once again welcomed back MANA for the Fall Meeting and it just so coincided with the Sea Witch Festival. Participants earned 10CEs with lectures on business matters to regional anesthesia, pediatrics, battlefield anesthesia and more. The welcome reception sponsored by UMMC was a fun and well attended event and the business meeting saw the introduction of the 2010 Board of Directors. Click on our Officers page to see who was elected. Additionally, the bylaw requiring the past-president to serve as Government Relations Chair was removed.
AA Bill Defeated!
3/11/2009
Dear MANA members:
I am pleased to report that AA Bill (HB 1161) was withdrawn today following testimony in front of the Senate Health subcommittee on SB 798.
This victory for the Maryland Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA) comes after a HUGE amount of work by MANA past presidents Michelle Duell, Kathe Nugent, and Maribeth Massie. Special thanks go to Lou Heindel, Linda Goetz, John Bing, Susan Rohr, Kari Murray, Shawn Seifert, Robert and Barbara Wagner and everyone who gave testimony at the hearing. Don't forget our lobbyists Bill Kress and Mike Canning as well as the entire MANA membership, both CRNAs and SRNAs who have stepped up to help with the massive grassroots lobby effort.
Together let's look forward to the Fall Meeting in Rehoboth, DE and to whatever challenges the year brings us. Maryland CRNAs and MANA are ready for it.

CRNAs Meet With Senate EHE Committee Members

Spring Meeting 2009

With 70+ attendees, a dozen vendors displaying their products, and a first-class lineup of speakers including AANA President Jackie Rowles, CRNA, MBA, MA, FAAPM this meeting was better than ever. Onsite PAC donations here hugely successful and the business meeting brought CRNAs up to date with hot topics like the Anesthesiologist Assistant issue and more. MANA 2008 Fall Meeting
The
MANA 2008 Fall Meeting was a great success this year! Over 125 attendants,
multiple vendors and excellent speakers made the event one of MANA's
best. The weekend long event took place September 19-21, 2008 in Rehoboth
Beach, DE, which is known for its excellent restaurants and treasure
trove of shopping, including 135 outlet stores, all sales tax free!
The Sands Convention Center once again hosted us and attendance was
at an all time high.
UMMC graciously hosted a reception for all attendees Friday evening. There were presentations from experts on clinical topics, insurance, business contracts, and new research which earned participants up to 14 CEs. At the MANA Business Meeting, election results were announced (feel free to click on the MANA officer's link to meet them!), members were informed of upcoming MANA activities, and of course, fun was had by all.
Mark your calendar for the Spring Meeting to be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum Heights, MD. See you next year!
